UNI-PCSC Sustainability Development

Sustainability Focus

The pace of sustainability transformation in the retail industry is accelerating, and President Chain Store Corporation has taken the lead. Since 2021, the Company has established four key task forces—carbon reduction, plastic reduction, food waste reduction, and sustainable procurement—to drive green operations at its core.

In recent years, the concept of “green energy operations” has been further integrated into business operations. Leveraging a network of over 7,100 stores across Taiwan, the Company connects its supply chain and affiliates through advanced logistics and energy management systems. By actively promoting energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives, it reduces emissions while enhancing operational efficiency, building a resilient retail ecosystem and extending sustainability to consumers’ daily lives.

Green Products

President Chain Store Corporation practices low-carbon product development in multiple ways, covering “plastic reduction × circularity × health.” Through the promotion of local ingredients, development of vegetarian and plant-based products, use of eco-friendly packaging, and Recycled Cups Renting Service, the Company enables consumers to choose products such as the Veggie Selection® series, fresh food and beverages made with local rice and fruit, and paper-packaged meal boxes with ease, reducing carbon footprints and putting sustainable living into practice.

Low-Carbon Diet

In response to the international trend of low-carbon diets, President Chain Store Corporation continues to promote “low-carbon lifestyle.” This includes the full adoption of paper cups with FSC forest management certification for CITY CAFE®, local procurement of agricultural products accounting for 74% of total agricultural product procurement volume, and agricultural product procurement amounting to NT$8.958 billion, representing 68% of total procurement value. The Company also showcases a diverse range of low-carbon food and beverage products, such as carbon-reduced rice balls, Veggie Selection®, and high-protein supplement series, demonstrating its dedicated practice of low-carbon diets.
The OPENPOINT APP has also launched a dedicated “Low-Carbon Products” section, featuring the low-carbon food and beverage items above, healthy meals, plant-based products, and more.

Plastic-Reduced Products

We regard packaging material management as part of the product itself. While placing importance on appearance, we focus even more on complete lifecycle management. At the current stage, we are advancing two major strategies: “reduction” and “circularity.”

  • On the reduction side, fresh food packaging is gradually adopting alternative materials to reduce plastic use. Taking microwaveable bento boxes as an example, the use of sealing film, paper meal boxes, and thermal transfer printing in place of adhesive labels reduces plastic use by an average of 45% per item.
  • On the circularity side, we are actively exploring ways to “turn recyclables back into our packaging materials.” We have therefore promoted “internal recycling of recycled plastics”: PET beverage bottles recovered from stores are collected through logistics channels and remanufactured into rPET food containers. In 2025, this reduced the use of virgin plastic by 162.4 metric tons, and applications continue to expand, including packaging materials for salads, hand rolls, sushi, and other products.

From recycling and remanufacturing to products being placed back on shelves, resources are truly returned to the operating system. After proper waste sorting, President Chain Store Corporation looks ahead to how recycled resources can continue to generate value and comprehensively drive the Company’s green growth.
