The pace of sustainability transformation in the retail industry is accelerating, and President Chain Store Corporation has taken the lead. Since 2021, the Company has established four key task forces—carbon reduction, plastic reduction, food waste reduction, and sustainable procurement—to drive green operations at its core.
In recent years, the concept of “green energy operations” has been further integrated into business operations. Leveraging a network of over 7,100 stores across Taiwan, the Company connects its supply chain and affiliates through advanced logistics and energy management systems. By actively promoting energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives, it reduces emissions while enhancing operational efficiency, building a resilient retail ecosystem and extending sustainability to consumers’ daily lives.
Store Energy Conservation
Building Energy-Saving Stores
- New Stores
When entering a store, everything from the signboard, lighting, air conditioning, refrigerated and frozen display cabinets, fans, traffic flow, and even the size of the windows determines energy consumption. From the moment a new store is opened, President Chain Store Corporation makes “energy conservation” a basic requirement. Building insulation, energy-saving signboards, reduced lighting fixtures, smaller window areas, inverter systems and LED lighting, indoor lighting management, and energy-saving wind-break rooms all make energy conservation the default setting for store openings.
- Store Energy Conservation Self-Inspections
Existing stores also continue to evaluate feasibility and gradually replace equipment with high-efficiency models. In addition to the engineering department, President Chain Store Corporation provides training for all store employees, enabling them to regularly inspect air conditioning, return air fans, lighting, refrigerated and frozen display cabinets, signboards, display windows, and other equipment in accordance with “Store Energy Conservation Self-Inspection Procedures,” ensuring that these facilities maintain high-efficiency operation. In 2025, stores successfully saved 124,252,177 kWh of electricity through energy conservation projects, equivalent to a reduction of 61,380.58 metric tons CO₂e in indirect emissions.
- Low-Carbon Store Establishment
President Chain Store Corporation has actively invested in building low-carbon stores for many years. From the full replacement of lighting with LEDs and the replacement of old refrigerated and frozen equipment to the introduction of IoT energy management systems, the Company has continued to focus on “reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency, and maintaining service quality.” Stores continue to develop innovative construction methods and energy-saving equipment.
- Innovative Construction Methods and Energy-Saving Equipment Development
To prevent fogging caused by temperature differences between the inside and outside of traditional refrigerator glass doors, electric heating wires are often required to heat the glass surface. In addition to the high electricity consumption of the heating equipment itself, this also increases the compressor load, thereby raising overall energy consumption. For the side-panel glass of open display refrigerators, President Chain Store Corporation optimized the design by using Low-e glass and filling the glass layer with inert gas (argon). After replacing traditional anti-fog electric heating wires, no electricity is required. Each piece of glass reduces electricity expenses by approximately NT$56.3 per month. Based on approximately three pieces of glass per store, each store can save NT$169 per month. In 2025, a cumulative total of 2,600 pieces of glass had been introduced, saving NT$0.79 million in electricity expenses and reducing carbon emissions by 466 metric tons CO₂e.
